(fanfic) APH-Holiday Plant

Finally I finished the xmas fanfic I promised for the past two weeks x,DD

It's not too much, but I hope you guys like it. I think I won't ever make fics based on holidays again because I can never stick to a schedule because I take such a long time to do things. Anyway, I hope you guys will enjoy it nonetheless.

Holiday Plant

The little Christmas party was soon to be over and eventually everyone with common since returned home before some people would get drunk to an unbearable level.

Christmas was a holiday that didn’t particularly concerned Yao, but he went out of the party really happy about the evening he had. During the secret Santa exchange, Yao was surprised to have received such a nice gift. He received the biggest present ever, full of every little things he absolutely adored. From his favourite tea leaves to a cute small collection of Hello Kitty plushies, Yao was completely amazed! On top of that, the thing that charmed him the most was the beautiful warm and soft scarf he received. It was a handmade scarf; he knew it. because he knew who got him all these presents.

And he was impressed by how much his secret Santa knew about him…
Leaving the loud room to get his coat in the hallway’s closet, his thoughts were interrupted when his eyes met with his secret Santa…

“Ivan?”He called, seeing the Russian opening the closet where his coat was.
“Yao-Yao?”
“You are also leaving aru?”The Chinese asked.
“Yes. I think it’s a good time to go home da! It’s starting to hail and I want to get home before the roads get really awful.”
“I thought the same thing too aru.”

For a second, Ivan’s eyes left the Chinese’s and looked up at the ceiling. Yao could swear that he saw the Russian’s checks blush softly. But rapidly, Ivan looked back at him with his usual gentle smile. Therefore, Yao thought it might have only been his imagination.

“I suppose you want your coat da?” Ivan asked, snapping Yao out of his thoughts.
“Oh, yes aru. “ The other replied, still a little perplexed over the recent detail he noticed. Once again, he had to hold his thoughts for later as he saw Ivan taking the coat out of the closet for him.
“Aiya! Ivan, it’s okay aru! You don’t need to take it for me! I will take it myself!”
“It’s okay! Don’t move! I’ll bring it to you!” The Russian exclaimed rapidly. The urgency of the reply surely shocked Yao. “Thanks aru…”

He took his coat from Ivan, not knowing what else to say and started to put it on.  Looking back at Ivan, he saw the other staring at him strangely with a somehow sheepish smile on his face.

“I really liked the gifts you gave me Ivan.” Yao announced, feeling that the silence was starting to be a little awkward.
“Ha! I am really happy that you like it Yao-Yao!”
Ivan gave him one of his cheerful warm smiles and Yao couldn’t help but answer back with a smile as well.

In the end, this has been a good party!
…But Ivan was still looking at him strangely. It felt as if the other really wanted to say something and now it was bothering the Chinese.

“Okay!  Ivan, what is it aru?”
“What?”
“Why are you looking strangely at me like that?”
Ivan seemed to be a little shocked about Yao’s question, but at the same time he didn’t let his sudden question bother him. He simply pointed up above Yao with a small smile. And the Chinese saw a certain plant above his head.

“Aiya! That’s …that weird holiday plant aru!” Yao remarked, not recalling the English name for that specific plant. “The one that they use often for Christmas decorations…”
“Ha~ Yes. I think they call it mistletoe in English da!” Ivan chuckled a little.
“Yes! Mistletoe! That’s the name for it aru!”

It took a few seconds for Yao’s brain to recall what this plant was commonly known for. But once he noticed Ivan’s shy smile and eager expression, the thought couldn’t be more obvious.

“Aiya!!! Are you thinking that we should kiss aru?!!!” The Chinese snapped as if it was a very wrong idea.
“Of course! It’s a mandatory kiss da!” Ivan pointed out happily.
“AIYAA! You are insane aru!”

However, despite Yao’s comments, Ivan was still coming closer to him. The blond put his hands on Yao’s shoulders and approached his face closer to Yao’s. Everything about this was making the Asian man feel very uncomfortable.

“AIYA! IVAN! I am NOT going to kiss you aru!” The Chinese replied, pushing away from the other.
“Aww Yao! But it’s the tradition!” Ivan whined, not even trying to hide his disappointment.
“I don’t care aru! I don’t celebrate this holiday! Therefore it’s not my traditions aru. In my eyes this is just some stupid holiday plant!” Yao said stubbornly, crossing his arms. “And I know you don’t care about these traditions as well aru!”

Ivan gave a sigh. Yao was surprised, when he saw the Russian took his hands away from him. He never thought he would convince Ivan so fast.

“Thanks for understanding …”
“Da…no problem.”

Yao was expecting Ivan to move away after that, but the Russian didn’t budge. Trying to ignore the other’s weird behaviour, Yao continued to dress up and put his new scarf on. His stress loosened up as he noticed how warm and comfortable his scarf was.

“Do you like the scarf Yao-Yao?”
“Yes, I like it very much. It’s very warm.” The Chinese replied. “Did you make it yourself?”
“Da!”

Just as he thought; in some way it made the gift even more precious and unique. It was rare that nowadays people would offer something that was made from their own hands and that showed their talent. According to Yao, it was a shame actually; because he really liked these kinds of gifts.

“Then I will take good care of it aru.”
Ivan’s expression of shock rapidly faded into a warm and happy one. His checks turned softly red as he looked at the amber eyes.

“I can’t express how happy that makes me feel.”

After that reply, Yao simply looked away shyly.
After a small exchange of smiles in silence, they finally left the loudly house into the cold. As soon as they put their first step outside, both of them shivered from the chilly winter wind. Neither of them liked that weather.

“You know...maybe we should wait a little until the hail would calm aru…”
“I don’t think it will get any calmer than this.” Ivan honestly answered. Nonetheless, the taller man didn’t move or leave; he stood with Yao under the front door, apparently waiting for the hail to calm.
Once again there was a silence that appeared between them and only the sound of the hail falling could be heard.

Yao sighed quietly and unconsciously looked up to the sky. It didn’t take long for his bored expression turned into shock once he laid eyes on yet a certain infamous plant again that was hanged on the front door.

“Aiya!”Yao screamed of frustration. Why was this stupid plant everywhere they went?!!!
“What? What is it?” Ivan questioned, confused by Yao’s abrupt expression.
“N-Nothing.” The Chinese turned his eyes looking at the floor, his face turned red.
Of course, this answer did not calm down Ivan’s curiosity.

“No! You have to tell me Yao-Yao.” The other childishly chirped.
Yao gave a deep sign and, this time; it was his turn to point up above Ivan’s head. The other followed the direction of Yao’s fingers and understood why the Chinese appeared to be so exasperated.

“Ha…it’s the mistletoe again…”Ivan remarked. “It’s like a sign da?” He added happily. “Someone out there surely wants us to kiss.”
“Oh you think so aru?” Yao asked skeptical of Ivan’s reply.
“It’s okay. I know you don’t want to…”Ivan said, this time he was the one who sighed.

Yao simply ignored the last comment and continued to wait for the weather to calm. So what if he didn’t wanted to kiss Ivan?! It was not a big deal! After all, it didn’t mean anything! It was just a silly tradition after all…

He could have just ignored all this and take the opportunity of the now less fierce hail to leave, but instead he did otherwise. He followed something that was in the back of his mind, even though; the rest of his brain was screaming him to run away from that thought.

“Would it be okay if I simply kiss you on the check aru?”
Ivan looked back at him, surprised to hear such a compromise from Yao.
“Da! Why not?” He replied. He would take anything he could get from the other at this point.

Therefore, after one last sigh, Yao approached the other man. The Chinese softly placed his hands on Ivan’s face and felt his checks burning and his heart pumping quickly. He only had to give him one kiss on the check! Why was he acting so anxiously?

Perhaps, it was because Ivan was starring intensely at him.

“C-close your eyes!” Yao ordered. And Ivan obeyed it without a word even though he was puzzled by this request.

Feeling a little more confident, Yao approached even closer. He only had to kiss the other man on the checks, but without realising it, he let his lips land on Ivan’s lips instead.
Ivan was taken aback by this, but did not move. He simply let himself enjoyed the lingering kiss until Yao pulled away.

Both of them had their face turn vividly red after that, to the point that they could forget about the cold temperature.

“Thank you.” Was the answer Yao heard from Ivan, after a while.

Yao did not reply, still feeling his checks red from embarrassment. He stood silence for a few more seconds and after he felt his heart calm down, he looked over at Ivan.
The Russian beamed the most beautiful smile Yao had ever seen. And Yao unconsciously returned it with a bright smile appearing on his face.

“Merry Christmas Ivan.”
